Cigarette Butt Hero a canuck shmuck

Last week I thought it was really cool that some dudes from Montreal posted their video on YouTube of an encounter they had with a guy dumping his ashtray out on the sidewalk. I was so inspired I was going to post about it right away. Then I got busy. Then it was Easter. Then I got busy again...

Finally getting set to post, I double-checked the YouTube page and decided to check some of the comments. I noticed that there were a lot of really heated posts in both English and French. The reason people were so angry, it turns out, was because the video was entirely fabricated. Nice!

It turned out to be a much more interesting story in the end with all the makings of a great CBC made-for-tv movie. The inspiring message got through ("Stand up to litter-bugs!"), an entire nation rallied (the lead actor is declared a national hero!), only to be saddened and angered by the news that it didn't really happen. Discuss.

oponia at JavaOne

I'm thrilled to announce that we (oponia networks) will be premiering our "hyper-simple" sharing and collaboration platform at JavaOne this year. You'll find us in the Java Playground in the Pavilion from May 8 to 10.

More info on the product will be available before the show (our team is working frantically on the material now), and I'll post again when it's ready to share.

I'd like to say a very special "Thank you!" to Bernard Traversat and Stephanie Kaul of Sun for providing us with this opportunity to showcase our JXTA-based product in such a great venue. Hope to see you there!
